Required Minimum Income (MNI)
Some family support programs require the sponsor to have a minimum income level to support themselves and their family members, including family members who have applied for support. The IRCC uses the Minimum Required Income (MNI) to assess their ability to provide financial support to family members.
Depending on the program you have applied for, and where they live in Canada, a citizen or permanent resident can only qualify to support one or more family members if they have the required minimum income (MNI). Be Canadian. If applying for a parent-grandparent support program, the sponsor must prove that they have exceeded the low income level for three consecutive years and sign a pledge to repay any social assistance received by their family members. Give.
Minimum federal income required for financial support
Sponsors living anywhere in Canada except Quebec must meet or exceed the minimum income required, depending on the size of their family.
Minimum Required Income (MNI)
The MNI is updated annually, and applies to all sponsorship programs for sponsors based in Canada but outside of Quebec. Sponsors must submit their assessment statement to the Canada Revenue Agency to prove they have the minimum income required for the following years:

How to calculate family size
The low income is determined by the size of your family in Canada and the number of people seeking financial support in Canada. To calculate the size of your family, you need to calculate as follows:
- You
- Spouse or customary partner
- Your dependent children, if any
- Number of people applying for financial support
- The number of dependents of that person’s family, whether they accompany them or not
